If I could, I would give you the sun so that all your days would be bright and warm.
If I could, I would give you the stars from the heavens above so that all your wishes would come true.
If I could, I would protect you from all pain so that you would never have to endure hardship.
If I could, I would give you all the money in the world so that you would never have to want for anything.
If I could, I would surround you with the brightest minds on earth so that you would never have to be without an answer.
If I could, I would give you physical beauty beyond compare so that you would never have to envy another.
If I could, I would give you power over all the earth so that you would never have to be under anyone's control.
BUT WAIT.........
If you had only wonderful happy days how could you learn to help those struggling with problems in their life ? Would you become so comfortable in your own life that you would neglect helping others ? You would be unable to learn what compassion means, unable to experience the joy you would feel after helping one in need, unable to understand real life.
If you were granted all your wishes would you soon lose the desire to look forward to each new day with anticipation and hope for a better tomorrow ? Would you lose the ability to experience joy in an unexpected gift ? You would be unable to learn how to work toward a goal and feel the sense of accomplishment when you reached it. You would be unable to understand that having everything you desire would not guarantee inner peace and happiness.
If you never had to experience pain in your life would you ever learn the meaning of happiness ? Without sorrow, you would be unable to comfort one in pain. You would be unable to sympathize and understand that life is a series of experiences, both joyful and painful. You would be unable to feel your heart sing during happy times without knowing how it feels during sad times.
If you had all the money in the world would you soon tire of life's material things and wonder what meaning there was to your life ? Would you lose the ability to determine what is really important in life ? You would be unable to experience the wonderful sense of accomplishment in knowing that you earned what you have. You would be unable to understand the daily battle others fight each day to provide for the necessities of life.
If you had all the answers to the questions in your life would you even strive to learn any lessons ? Would you become confused when you were given many different answers to the same question ? You would be unable to learn how to seek to expand your own mind. You would soon learn that no one has all the answers; that there are no answers to some of life's questions.
If you were the most beautiful person on earth would you lose your ability to seek to improve yourself ? Would you consider those less beautiful to be unworthy of your attention ? You would be unable to understand that underneath the exterior is where a person's true beauty lies.
So please be content in knowing that.......
I will be there for you, to support and comfort you when your days are sad and lonely.
I will be there for you, helping you to set and achieve your goals, celebrating your successes with you, and encouraging you to keep working toward success.
I will be there for you, to comfort and hold you when you must endure, as everyone does, painful experiences in life.
I will be there for you, to encourage you and help you understand that health, true happiness, real love, respect, and inner peace - some of the most precious things in life- cannot be purchased.
I will be there for you, to help you seek answers to your questions and to deal with those questions that have no answers.
I will be there for you, to help you realize that physical beauty fades, but inner beauty grows more beautiful each day.
I will be there for you, to help you learn to understand that total power corrupts, and the true beauty of living life fully is to learn to live in harmony with others.
These things, my love, are the best gifts I could give you.
